Behind the Scenes : Fiancee Visa versus Spousal Visa
Marriage is in the air this Christmas and New Years. I have been extremely busy helping many clients apply for Fiancee and Spousal Visas. see http://www.fianceevisaservices.com
Generally, I recommend couples apply for Fiancee Visas because the application process is quicker, 9 months versus 12 months, and because it is simpler, one petition versus two petitions.
Recently one of my clients was planning a trip to China to meet his fiancee for the first time, face-to-face. I was preparing a Fiancee Visa application for him, and sent him documents requiring his Fiancee's signature, to take along on the trip. Just before he left, he got THE call from his Fiancee advising she wanted marriage during his visit.
Well, it worked out fine. He returned from China smiling, with a marriage licence and lots of photos from the Honeymoon. We had to switch gears though, changing from a fiancee visa (K-1) petition to a spousal visa (K-3) petition.
The work we had already done was not wasted. Because the way a K3 Spousal visa application procedure works, is that it combines a Fiancee Visa Petition I-129F with that of a Petition for Alien Relative I-134. First we prepare and submit the I-134 petition. Then after USCIS acknowledges their reciept of the first petition, we submit the I-129F. This way the Petition for Alien Relative I-134 gets modified to become a K3 petition, which while slower than a normal Fiancee Visa petition, is much faster then the normal Petition for Alien Relative.

Don't be Too Agressive
There is a big difference between being aggressive or confident and being too aggressive, over-confident, or just plain sleazy or slimy from a woman’s point of view. If you push too hard for a face-to-face, you will come across as too aggressive…maybe even, scary. Try to remember that you are not trying to close a business deal and keep the relationship progressing at a slow but steady pace. Patience is the key.
Don't Demand Perfection
Nobody is perfect. We are all flawed in some way or another…and that includes you, as well. If you expect the woman to be absolutely perfect and demand that, you will always be disappointed. Demanding perfectionism in your work is one thing. Demanding perfectionism from a friend, co-worker or a lady you are interested in is not just fine. It won’t happen. Expect flaws and just deal with them. Decide the ones you can live with and those you can’t.
Don't Lie
Little white lies and false fronts won’t work. Be honest from the beginning of a relationship. Write your profile. Make it interesting but don’t make false statements. The truth will come out eventually anyway. If you say you are a lawyer who makes a million bucks a year and you are really an electrician that makes $75,000, you have set yourself up for failure.
Remember…don’t be too aggressive, expect to ever find perfection or put on a false front.
